Home Router Setup & Security

In-Home only

You’ve bought a regular or wireless router and now you want to make sure that it is securely configured, your computers, printers, and other devices can connect to it, and that you still have access to the internet.
Here's what I'll do...

Update your router's firmware to the latest version.

Connect your router to your existing Internet connection, whether cable or DSL.

Secure administrative functions on your router or DSL modem.

Enable encryption on your router (applies to wireless only).

Lockdown your router  or DSL modem so only your computers can can gain access.

Configure all of your PCs to connect securely to your router or DSL modem. (this may require updating your computer's software, but don't worry you won't be charged extra)

Configure all of your network devices such as network or wireless printers. (this may require updating device drivers and software, no extra charge)

If you have wireless gaming devices such as Nintendo DS or PSP, I can set those up to.

Verify that all of your computers have access to the internet through the router and that they can connect to your printer or network devices.

Please note that there are different levels of encryption and that your hardware may only allow you to connect up to a certain level. I will explain the highest level that all of your hardware are capable of connecting to as a whole as well as which devices are keeping you from having the highest encryption.
