When you begin to have problems with your computer and you call a "geek" for help, you expect that the technician that comes to your home is certified and is a professional. Unfortunately this is not always the case. When you call your local PC Repair shop, whether a Big Box store or the small shop on the corner, ask the following questions either before the tech comes out or when they arrive on-site, just be sure to ask them before they touch your computer:
1. How long have you been repairing computers?
2. Ask to see their CompTIA A+ certification card. This certification is the industry standard when it comes to computer repair. If your tech does not have this on him, or says that he does not have this cert, then shop somewhere else.
3. Ask what it costs just to diagnose the problem. (Best to do this before they come out)
The following videos will show various investigations involving PC Repair companies. Some of them contain some very important information regarding how to shop around for pricing as well as questions to ask the tech that is working on your computer system.
There is one thing I would like to point out regarding certain stores. There are companies out there that hire salespersons before they look at their technical abilities. You will notice this when you ask them for help and they immediately begin to sell you additional "stuff". My advice is to avoid these stores when it comes to computer repair. The proof is in the videos below.
